It has a standard quarter-inch instrument input and another input for a footswitch that changes between three different channels, including Clean Rhythm 1, Crunchy Rhythm 2, and Lead. Each knob also has a pull option, which will affect the circuit differently.The volume knob can be pulled for brightness that adds shimmer and sparkle. The treble knob controls high frequencies while the bass and bass shift can control lower frequencies. The middle control option can help produce warmer tones while the pull-switch is most noticeable in the Rhythm 2 channel. The Master switch controls the total output volume, and when pulled it adds depth and fatness to your tone. The graphic EQ lets you control frequencies ranging from 80 to 6500 hertz.The rear panel of the Mesa Mark III tube head is intricate. The Boogie also has outputs for various amplifiers depending on their impedance, including 4, 8, or 16 ohms. The tube switch toggles between Class A and Simul-Class or between 60 and 100-watt output. The Class A option powers only the outside EL34 tubes while the Simul-Class will power those in addition to the middle 6L6 tubes. This can add greater control over a clean or distorted gain signal, depending on how much power you want to output in combination with your speaker cabinet.With manufacturing beginning in 1985 by Mesa Electronics, the Mark III amp underwent an extensive revision process, similar to the other Mark series amps like the Mark IV combo. They used a stripe system to categorize the version and production year.
